It's been quiet for our youth teams due to the summer holidays.

Our girls team reached the league final but it wasn't to be on the night as they lost by two points. Well done girls for reaching the final and doing the club proud as always.

Congratulations to the London U15 and U17 teams who won the All Britain Championships.
A special mention goes to St Clarets players Cormac Sibley, Aaron Myers and Patrick Woulfe who all represented the U15s and Oisin Murphy for the U17s. Well done lads and also Liam Hession who was unfortunately ruled out by injury.

July 21st 2018

Club Notes

Last weekend was a weekend for our youth teams as the All Britain Championships took place from Thursday to Sunday.

This club could have a strong future based on the performances our younger St Clarets members showed at the ABCs which is great to see.

A massive thank you to the players who participated over the weekend and the parents who supported us too. We were represented at every age group from the U8s, U10s, U11s, U13s, U15s, U17 boys and U18 ladies.

Get well soon to Enda who represented our U11s last week but unfortunately broke his finger during a game and had to go to hospital. Having only had the bare 11 players we were reduced to 10 so Lucio helped out to make up the numbers, despite being injured himself from training the week before. Well done.

We didn't come away with any silverware this year but each team performed and progressed well in each of their respective competitions.

A big thank you to the coaches who have helped out over the year and the effort they put into last weekend.

U8s/U10s: Tadhg Lee, Liam Dudley Healy, Barry Wallace and Paddy Donaghy
U11s: Barry Wallace, Gerry & Colleen Lynott and Dudley
U13s: Mick Shepherd and Gerry & Colleen Lynott
U15s & U17s: Martin Hession and Denis McCarthy
U18 Ladies: Martin Hession

A special mention too for Marie Hession for the effort and organisation she did for all of the youth teams.

Club Notes

The U6s took part in a blitz hosted by Tara recently and put in some cracking performances. Luke O'Loughlin shone.

U6s July 2018

The U8s and U10 also participated on the day and put in some impressive performances.

U8s July 2018

On Sunday 1st July our under 8s and 10s made the traffic laden journey south of the river to take part in the Donncha O Donovan Family Day hosted by Round Towers. Well done to u10 goalkeeper Joe Wyse who have an exhibition of excellent goalkeeping and was awarded player of the tournament. The fact that we were one of only two clubs that travelled to support this day highlights how lucky we are to have players so eager to play and parents so readily available to transport them to matches, this is greatly appreciated. Our under 8s and 10s participate at the ABCs on Friday 13th July at 3pm.

Joe Wyse

On Saturday 30th June under 11s performed very strongly at their blitz at Northwick Park. Huge thanks to Paul And Barry for looking after the team. A reminder that the under 11s play in the ABCs on Saturday 14th July.

The U15s have been going strongly recently. Last month they faced Thomas McCurtains in a tight encounter in Goodmayes but lost out by two points.
They then faced Thomas McCurtains again a few weeks later in the league final but agonisingly lost by the narrowest of margins after McCurtains scored a last minute winner. St Claret's 4-11 Thomas McCurtains 7-03.
Well done to the team on reaching the semi final and representing the club so well.

U15s July 2018

The U15s finally got the better of Thomas McCurtains when they won the championship semi final on Tuesday night! Fantastic achievement and well done. News on the final date and time will be released soon. It'll be great if as many club members as possible can get out to support the team. Also, well done to the U13 players who made the step up and helped out the U15s.

Thomas McCurtains U15

Our young ladies' team has also been busy having played a challenge match against TCG in Greenford. Thanks to TCG for putting a team together at short notice.
They also played Parnell's in a double header last week. They won one game and lost the other. They donned their new kit for the first time and the girls are over the moon.

Club Notes

This Saturday 30th October our 3rd Annual Youth Day takes place. As mentioned before this has proven to be a very enjoyable day and is a great chance for the whole club to get together.

The forecast for the day is good so there's no excuses but to get down and enjoy the day!

County Board Draw

The county draw runs from October to September and so it's that time of year when the £120 payment for entry for the year is due again. We had a brilliant year this year in the draw with several winners over the last year.

The club is compelled to sell 20 per year and so we are relying on and hoping for your support again this year.

Payment can be by contacting Marie Hession.

Thanks for your support down the years, congrats to all those who had a win this year and the best of luck to you all for the year ahead.

Youth Update

Last Saturday our under 6s, 8s and 10s took part in the annual James O Brien tournament hosted by St Kiernans at Hendon Rugby Club. All of our young boys and girls performed tremendously, with lots of great football played throughout the day. Our under 10s brought home a second piece of silverware from successive blitzes by claiming the shield competition. Following two wins and two defeats in the group stages, the boys narrowly missed out on second place in the group and a place in the cup semi final.

Nevertheless, third place ensured a strong seeding for the shield semi final and a very strong finish against St Kiernans in a game that was level for long periods (2-04 to 0-02) resulted in a place in the final against Parnells which we duly won on a score line of 1-07 to 0-04.

Well done to Ollie McCarthy. Matthew Keane, Daniel Greene, Tom Keane, Niall Wallace, Freddie Bond, Finn Murphy and Tadhg O Looney who did the business so impressively.

Club Notes

A massive well done to our girls teams who participated in the JFfrench annual tournament last weekend. It was a fantastic day and the girls played 6 hard group games which included 2 teams over from Ireland. They progressed then onto the Plate championship final, where they successfully defeated St Lawrence's from Manchester. This is a great achievement for the girls and they battled long and hard throughout every game to put up some fantastic displays of football. We would like to thank all the parents for their support and a very big thank you to Tara's GFC for a fantastic tournament and wonderful hospitality on the day.
Well done to: Leona, Ciara, Maia, Charlotte, Maura, Lily, Chloe, Tara & Jemma.

Under 16s 2017

This Saturday 16th September this year's newly formed U12 side travel down to Gael Londain to play in this year's semi final against Gael Londain. Victory will put them in the final against the winners of Thomas McCurtains and St Kiernan's. Please get down to support the team if you're free. 10 of these players had never played for the club until this year so to reach this stage has been a fantastic achievement. Club Notes

It was a very busy weekend in the youth section of the club, with just over 70 St Claret's boys and girls taking part across the 3 day ABC competition in Greenford. This was a fantastic achievement for the club to be able to field teams at every age from U8 up to U16 in the boys competition and the U16 age group for the girls.

The weekend started on Friday with our U8s and U10s taking to the field displaying some fantastic football and showing some real gutsy determination. Saturday followed on nicely with our U12s team winning their quarter final and making it through to the cup semi-final. Also on Saturday our U16 boys and U16 girls took to the field and worked tirelessly to put up some fantastic displays of football. Finally on Sunday, it was our U14 boys turn who played their hearts out only to be defeated by St Kiernans in the cup semi-final. A big well done to all our players who participated and showed some true club commitment, we appreciate your efforts and we are all very proud of you!

We would like to say a big thank you to all the club mentors for the all the hard work they put in over the weekend and to all the parents & grandparents that turned out to support. We would also like to say thank you to some of the senior team lads that came out to support us over weekend it was very much appreciated. A mention also goes out to the young lads that came down to Greenford to support on their day off and helped out with umpiring and various jobs around the camp.

Youth Update:

Reminder: Club membership of £25 is due, please give this to your club mentor asap.

This week our U16s team played TCG ‐ Taras on Monday night. This game was a great deal more competitive that our last game and although we lost there was a great performance put in by both sides which made the game very enjoyable to watch. We have a break now for the U16s until after the exams. We wish all our lads and girls the very best of luck in their GCSEs. Training still continues on Thursday evenings for all U16s and U14 boys, 7pm at Kingshill Avenue.

Our girls' team played their first league game on Friday night versus Tara up in East Lane. We received a great reception from the Tara, and some lovely facilities were provided. Although we came up short on the scoreboard against a well drilled Taras team, it was a very sporting game to watch and it's a big well done to our girls. Keep up the good work and see you all at training on Wednesday.

Our U12s team had a very busy day on Saturday playing 5 games in an U12s blitz in Tottenhall. The lads played some great football and managed to win all 5 games, big well done to them and a big thank you to all the parents for making the trip.

The U10s acquitted themselves very well over the weekend despite a number of players missing for the fixture. We also had several players playing up an age group. The players were: Ollie McCarthy, Sean O Halloran, Niall Wallace, Finn Murphy, Fiontan Lawlor, Brian Wellard, Liam Geddes, Callum Heddes, Sarah Batt, Ben Ahuja, Olivia Ahuja, Callum Robinson, Charlie McCarthy, Tadhg Donaghy, Matthew Keane.

GOLF DAY

Over the past dozen or more years, our Annual Golf Day has become an integral and popular part of the social and fundraising activity within our club. And as we enter out fifth decade of participation in Gaelic games in London, the importance of this event continues to grow. To ensure its success, we are reaching out to our supporters and sponsors for their generosity.

An important element of any Golf Day is hole sponsorship. This year each hole is £100.00 or 3 holes for £250.00.

The entry fee for an individual golfer is £60, while a team of four costs £240. This fee includes coffee and a breakfast roll before play, as well as an evening meal after. Buggies can also be booked in advance for £25.00.

We also welcome any non-golfers who wish to attend the evening meal, however, this will need to be booked in advance (£25).

If you are interested in taking part in our annual Golf Day or providing hole sponsorship, please let me know and payment can be made via a cheque payable to St Clarets GFC and posted to: Mrs Marie Hession, St Clarets Treasurer, 6 Princes Park Parade, Hayes, Middlesex UB3 1LA.

Thanking you for supporting St Clarets GFC. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].

Club notes

On Saturday the club held its second Annual Youth day down at Kingshill Avenue. The day started with heavy showers and black skies and basically would have been a day when most would have dived back under the duvet covers but in true St Claret's spirit we proceeded with the day's events and as if like magic the day progressed into a fantastic sunny day. We would like to thank each and every man, woman and child that ventured out and joined us for a truly fantastic fun packed family day and took the time out to bring buns and cakes and take part in all the games.

Our mums and girls took to the field first, where at half time the mums were ahead by 3 points, the girls came through at the end, captained by Chloe Enright and won by 1 point to take possession of the Chloe Buckley Cup for the second year running. Mams of the match awards were presented to: Nicola Donaghy and Claire Delaney, well done ladies the secret training paid off!

This game was followed by a fantastic display of football from our U8 and U10 teams who showed to the club the future is bright with this group of young boys and girls coming through.

The day finished with the lads and Dads match, where the ole fellas held their own for a while but youth and fresh legs won through at the end. Dillon Buckley was presented with the Denis McCarthy Cup for the second year in row and the Dads are in training already for next year. It was great to see some old Claret's stalwarts in action and great to see some of the old magic is still there if only in short supply. Men of the match were Paul Myers and Dermot Wallace who showed they've still got what it takes.

We would like to thank all the committee members who were onsite from early to help set up. We would also like to pay special thanks to Paul Myers and his assistant Aaron, who were there early to open gates and help set up in the rain and were the last men out at the end of the day.

We would like to make a special mention to Michael O Shea who was celebrating his 16th birthday on Saturday but still took the time out to take part in the day.

Once again thanks to everyone that turned up on the day and made the day so successful. To those of you that couldn't make it, for different reasons, you missed a very special day.

At the end of the day we retired to the Ye Olde Crowne on the Uxbridge Road to watch the All-Ireland. We would like to thank Gillian for her hospitality and a great evening. Maybe not so great for our Mayo members of the club.

This Saturday our Under 10s head up to Tottenhall for a blitz. 11.30am start.

Club notes

The Youth in the club have had a fantastic weekend of Gaelic football, the attitude and sportsmanship from all our players was fantastic and we are all very proud of them. They all wore the green and white colours with pride and represented the club in good spirits, everyone of them is a great credit to the club. Across the weekend parents came in their numbers to support their children and the club, prepared for whatever the weather was going to throw at them, we are extremely grateful for all your support.

Day 1

St Clarets participation in this year's ABCs began on Friday morning but not in our renowned green and white hoops. Instead, 8 of our young players donned navy blue jerseys as they backboned the Douay Martyrs side who finished 3rd in the Secondary school's competition. Having topped their group with 3 wins and a draw, the side captained by our own Liam Hession, narrowly lost a tense semi-final before bouncing back to win the 3rd place play-off. Along with their captain, our own Joseph Murphy, Finley Richardson, Darragh Tierney, Aaron Myers, Harvey Monaghan, Patrick Woulfe and Nathan Kiernan all excelled in their school's strong performance. Well done also to Kian and Thomas O'Halloran and Stefano Biondi who performed impressively for their school, Cardinal Wiseman.

That afternoon, our newly formed under 8s performed exceptionally in their six games. An opening draw was followed by four successive victories before concluding with a narrow one-point defeat, a fantastic performance in our first ABC at this age group. Our under 8 squad was as follows: Niall Wallace (captain), Fiontan Lawlor, Sarah Batt, Jamie Batt, Harry Appelbe, Sean O Halloran, Axel Gil, Elsa Gil, Ben Ahuja, Charlie McCarthy, Tadhg Donaghy and Jack Keane.

Likewise our under 10s had an excellent afternoon. It was also these players first experience of the ABC tournament and with three victories from five matches it proved to be a memorable one. With some superb scores taken and excellent football played, these young men did the club proud with their strong showing. Our under 10 squad was as follows: Ollie McCarthy, Callum Robinson, Matthew Keane, Daniel Greene, Paddy Gorman, DJ McNicholas, Finn Murphy, Daniel Keys and Brian Wellard.
The management, Tadhg Lee, Liam Healy and Ryan O'Connell wish to thank all parents not only for their support and assistance on the day, but for ensuring that all players were available on the day and that we lined out with our full squad.

Day 2

On Day 2 our U16s took to the field in the morning. Although the results on the field weren't always in our favour everyone of the lads played their hearts out and displayed some fantastic talent. This is a very young U16s team so all we can say is the future is bright and we look forward to next year. Players were: Milo McNulty, Michael Myers, Charlie Nicholson, James Ford, Liam McNulty, Oisin Murphy, Connor Bowler, Harry O Leary, Darragh Tierney, Alvin Maher, Aaron Myers (superstar Goalie) and Liam Hession.

In the afternoon our fabulous girls team took to the field and we really mean fabulous. These 9 girls have gone from strength to strength and although the games were fiercely competitive the girls gave as good as they got. We played 4 games, winning 1 and very narrowly losing 2 other games. Players were: Chloe Enright (Capt), Leona Enright, Lily McNulty, Ciara Hession, Jemma McNulty, Sabrina Reddin, Megan Jarrett, Kiera Hedger and Molly Richardson.

Day 3

On Day 3 our U14s took to the field. Our first challenge of the day was to put up the gazebo as the rain started to fall and the wind gathered speed but we did it with some great help from parents. The lads played 3 group games, winning 1, drawing 1 and losing 1 which resulted in us going through to the cup quarter finals. Unfortunately, we lost to the Tara in the quarter final and our day came to an end. Our U14s are a great bunch of lads and we have some fantastic skill and talent amongst the team but unfortunately we weren't up the mark to progress any further on the day. Players were: Joe Murphy, Oisin Murphy (Capt), Cormac Sibley, Aaron Myers, Liam McNulty, Liam Hession, Joey Holden, Syzmek Reddin, Patrick Woulfe, Kian O'Halloran, Sean Alexander, Joseph Hedger, Finlay Richardson, Jack Do Rosario, Thomas Do Rosario and Callum Shevlin.

Unfortunately, we were defeated by Thomas McCurtains on Sunday in the U14 Championship semi-final. The lads played a brilliant second half but left it a little bit too late to make the comeback. We'll look forward to the ABCs this weekend and hopefully we'll get some good results. Thank you to all the players and parents who made the effort to get to this match.

Our U16s returned to the field on Friday night to play Parnells in Northwick Park. This was the first game after the break for exams and although we were defeated by Parnells it was great to get the lads out playing again.

On Sunday our girls took to the field for the first time this year to take part in the girls Go Games in Greenford sponsored by Vince McCarthy (TCG). After a long wait to get going the girls played 2 great games, we narrowly lost to TCG and Tara were a bit too strong for us, but this didn't put our girls off and they played throughout with determination and battled through to defend to the bitter end. They are a great credit to the club.

We would like to thank all the parents for their support over the last week, it's been a busy week and a number of parents are on road covering a number of age groups and helping out with lifts, all your help and support is greatly appreciated.

February 10th 2016

Club notes

We are currently searching for an Under 10s manager for the upcoming season so if you are interested, or are aware of anyone who may be, please get in touch with us regarding the position. It is vital that we are able to continue the good work done with our youth teams over the past few years and continue to strengthen the integration between the youth and senior teams.

Saturday 27th February we hold a fundraiser and presentation night in Ye Olde Crowne. Thanks to Kefo Projects who are sponsoring our new kit and Ye Olde Crowne who will be sponsoring new bags.

January 20th 2016

Club notes

We are seeking a manager for our under 10s for 2016. We have a good crop of players at this age group that have been training diligently with Martin, Marie and Denis for the past couple of years and are raring to go and to develop their skills further. With the aforementioned mentors already looking after the under 16s, under 14s and the girls team, it is of crucial importance for the underage development of the club (that has served the senior team so well in recent seasons) that we acquire new underage mentors for this year so that all age groups are provided for sufficiently.

Please contact a committee member if you are interested or alternatively attend our AGM which takes place on Sunday 31st January, 3.30pm in The Brook House, Kingshill Avenue, Hayes.

January 14th 2016

Club notes

Happy New Year to you all! We hope you had an enjoyable break.

Our first event of the year is our AGM which takes place on Sunday 31st January, 3.30pm in The Brook House, Kingshill Avenue, Hayes. All club members and players are asked to attend as we reflect on last year and set our targets for the forthcoming year.

Following on from this, on Saturday 27th February, we will be holding an early season fundraiser/ presentation night in Ye Olde Crowne, Uxbridge Road, Hayes. Our senior team will be presented with their League medals from last season. We will also be presented with our new kit kindly sponsored by our own club member Colin Keane, Kefo Projects.

We are always looking to introduce new members to the club. We are a progressive club based in Hayes so if you are looking to join a club in West London please contact us.

We also have several youth teams including a girl's team so any youngsters looking to take up Gaelic football are more than welcome.

There will be more details regarding training to follow on in the upcoming weeks.

October 8th 2015

Club notes

Good luck to our minor team who face Parnells on Sunday in the Minor Championship Semi Final. Your support will be appreciated for this game as they aim to add to the impressive collection our youth teams have made this season. This takes place in Greenford on Sunday at 2pm.

St Clarets Youth Day and Presentation Evening

A very big thank you to all Committee members, Parents and Players that worked so hard to make Saturday a fantastic day. We were blessed with the weather, we were blessed with homemade cakes, buns and apple pies and we were blessed with some fantastic displays of Gaelic football. It was great to see so many mums getting stuck in at the Girls vs Mums game and it was even better to see many of our club veterans taking to the field in the Dad's game, proving that they've still got what it takes.

We would like to extend our thanks to Gillian at Ye Olde Crowne for the lovely hospitality received when we retired for the day, it was really appreciated and it was amazing to see that there was still life left in the batteries for some jigging about on the dance floor.

Keep an eye out on the St Clarets website and facebook page for some photos from the day. If any parents have any more pictures feel free to send them in. Thanks again and we'll be in contact in new year.

U12s ‐ Parnells Conrad Ryan Day
Congratulation to our U12s team who won the Gerry Somers Memorial Shield at the Parnells tournament on Sat 19th Sept. After playing 3 group games we went through to a semi-final against TCG, which thankfully we won. We then progressed to a final against Parnells which ended up going right down to the wire. With 2 points down and only minutes left in the game the lads battled through until we were finally awarded with a last minute free kick which our captain, Liam Hession, buried in the back of the net to secure a 1 point win.
This was a fantastic win for the club and a great reward to the lads for all their hard work throughout the day. The determination and effort displayed by the girls was an absolute credit to the club and themselves and we are all very proud of them.
We would like to thank all the parents for their support from the side line and we all shared the girls' disappointment after such a cruel defeat in the final. Club notes

A lot to read this week but it was a very busy and successful week for the whole club with our senior and youth teams earning good results on the pitch. There were a total of three trophies in a week for our youth teams, while Sam Maguire and Liam McCarthy were also in attendance.

ABCs Sat 11th & Sun 12th July 2015

The youth players in the club were all very busy last weekend taking part in the annual ABC competition in Greenford. We had 3 teams taking part, our girl's team, U12s and U14s and it ended up being a very successfully weekend

Girls Update ‐ The girls played 4 games on Saturday in the U14 ladies competition, drawing one game and losing 3. The standard of football was very high and the girls coped admirably by improving as each game went on. This experience will do the girls in good stead for the up and coming J French tournament on 12th September, which will be our next target to aim for. A special mention to Sabina Reddin who celebrated her 12th birthday on Saturday and delayed her birthday celebrations until the competition was over, well done Sabina. Thank you to all the parents for the support on the side line and for taking the time out to support your children throughout the day.

U12s ‐ Congratulations to the U12s for winning the Shield competition at the ABCs on Saturday. They played 5 group games before advancing to the semi-final against Tir Chonaill Gaels. In a close fought game the lads won through and progressed to the final against Glen Rovers from St Albans. This was another very exciting game that went right down to the wire, but the lads held on to win. This is a massive achievement for the U12s, they played some fantastic football in the sweltering heat and were a great credit to the club. We will look forward to seeing these young lads playing for the club in years to come. A special mention to Cormac Sibley who also celebrated his 12th birthday on Saturday, we admire his commitment to his team mates, well done Cormac. A massive thank you to all the parents and family that attended the day, your support on the side line is second to none and got us over the line in some very tense matches.

U14s ‐ Congratulations to the U14s for winning the Shield competition at the ABCs on Sunday. After 5 hard group games they progressed to the semi-final against TCG. By this time in the day the weather had taken a turn for the worst but the lads soldiered through and clinched a victory. The final was played in driving rain against Sean McDermotts from Manchester and once again it was the lads second half performance that won through leaving the supporters hanging on until the last minutes to win by 1pt. The supporters were soaking wet but jubilant upon the final whistle. It was a glorious end to the weekend for the club and all involved. A very big thank you to all the parents and supporters that were there for the day it really added to the atmosphere in the final. An even bigger thank you to the parents of our U18 team that hung on to support the lads.

Minor ‐ A massive thank you and well done to Aidan Bradshaw, Conor Bradshaw, Luke Everitt, Andrew Furlong, Colm Lynott, Ryan O Connell and Sean Rushe of the Minor team who did themselves and the club proud at the ABC tournament in Greenford. They put in gallant performances in difficult circumstances and we are very grateful to them for the way they represented the club. As usual our support was fantastic. Thank you to everyone who was there.

Next minor fixture is against TCG in Greenford on Tuesday 14th July at 7.30pm.

Youth Training - Underage training will continue on Wednesdays throughout the summer holidays, we look forward to see you all.

Congratulations to our U14s team who defeated Tara on Saturday afternoon by 10-points in their Championship Final. Each and every lad played their heart out for the club and were an absolute credit to both the club, their mentors and their families. They played a fantastic brand of football like they've done all season and finally got their just rewards. We would like to thank the large crowd of parents, grandparents, siblings and friends that turned out to support us on the day. In typical St Clarets fashion we had some old Clarets names on the side line supporting us with some old Clarets legends on umpire and lines man duties, how could we fail. Following the celebrations, we will now re-group and look forward to the up and coming ABCs competition next weekend.
In our 40th anniversary year as a club it&aposs great that this team have added to our trophy collection this year. Hopefully they will carry on after this and achieve more in the future.

Note from Treasurer

I'm afraid it's that time of year again and I need to gather a bit of interest for this year's London County Board draw (Oct 2014 ‐ Sept 2015).

Just to let you know that the club was quite successful in having a few draw winners last year they were:

June 2014 Prize money £1,000 ticket no. 482 - Colm Lynott
Feb 2013 Prize money £100 ticket no. 497 - Eamon Colleran
Jan 2014 Prize money £250 ticket no. 482 - Colm Lynott
Dec 2013 Prize money £1,000 ticket no. 485 - Martin Hession
Oct 2013 Prize money £250 club draw
Sept 2013 Prize money £250 club draw

The draw for 2014/15 will commence from October onwards and it will be the usual amount of £120 for the year. The club will have to pay up for 20 tickets, regardless, so again like last year the more people we get to take a ticket the less a burden it is on the club's funds. If we sell more than 20 tickets then the club gets a certain amount back, so if you know of anyone else that may be interested in purchasing a ticket please let me know.

Can you please let me know by email to [email protected] whether you would be interested in purchasing a ticket this year so I can start to draw up the list.

Thank you all for your continued support and congratulations to those that have had a win/s, let's hope we get a few more this year.

Marie Hession
(Club Treasurer).

St Clarets Girls team took part in the Tara J French Girl's tournament on Saturday 13th Sept in Greenford. They won two out of their three group games to gain a place in the final of the cup versus Parnells. Oh what a final it was! Our girls, despite being a goal and a point down in the final minutes of the game, came back to score a goal and a point to level the game at full time, this sent the crowd on the side line delirious. The game went into extra-time and unfortunately we lost by one-point. Each and every girl played their hearts out for the team and battled for every ball, they were an absolute credit to not only the club and mentors but to their parents as well. We would like to thank each and everyone of them for their efforts today and big thank you to their parents for taking the day out to support their child. Don't worry girls our day will come!!
Players were: Kira Hedger (Capt), Leona Enright, Sabina Reddin, Lily McNulty, Tara Sheridan, Chloe Enright, Leah Higgins, Megan Jarratt and Ciara Hession.

It's been another super successful year for St Clarets at the ABC Games in Greenford. Here's a snapshot of how our teams got on.

St Clarets were represented at the All Britain Championships by our girl's team, who took part in the Ladies Football development day, also by our U12s, who played 6 games in total and narrowly lost the Plate Final for the second year in a row.

On Sunday our U14s took to the field and were also defeated in the Plate Final. A big thank you to all our players for your effort and sportsmanship on and off the field, you are great credit to the club.

Also a massive thank you to all our parents who took the time out to attend and support us at this event, which has now become a very important part of the Youth Gaelic calendar.

The St Clarets teams were: Girls ‐ Ciara Hession, Tara Sheridan, Leah Higgins, Leona Enright, Lily McNulty & Chloe Enright.

U12s ‐ Cormac Sibley, Liam Hession, Aaron Myers, Jack Do Rosario, Joshua Dwyer, Tommy Naughton, Sean Alexander, Reece Connolly, Joey Holden, Joseph Hedger, Thomas Do Rosario.

U14s ‐ Aaron Myers, Michael Myers, Charlie Nicholson, Oisin Murphy, Michael O'Shea, Jonathan Wickham, Joseph Deveureux, Niall Bradshaw, Alvin Maher, Kyle King, Liam Hession.

In the minor competition we were drawn in a group of six, losing our first game to Tir Chonaill Gaels, followed by four consecutive wins to finish second in the group and qualify for the semi-final.

In the semi-final, we played the winners of the other group and got through to the final to play Tir Chonaill Gaels again! The game was a draw at full-time and again after extra time and we proceeded to a three-penalty shoot out which we won 3-1 thanks to a fantastic save by Ryan O'Connell who also stepped up to follow Lorcan Comer and Jordan McGirr to score the decisive penalty.

Congratulations to our squad for the day:- Alfie McNulty (capt.), Shane Buckley, Ryan O'Connell, Lorcan Comer, Conor Devereux, Shane O'Hare, Joe Dyson, Aidan Bradshaw, Conor Bradshaw and Jordan McGirr.

Big thanks to all our supporters, including many of the U14 players and parents who stayed on to support us in the final.

On Sunday 13th, Hurling, Camogie and U14 & U18 Boys Football will commence at approximately 11:00am.

World Record Attempt - Friday 11th July - 16:45 - 20.30.

On Friday 11th July at 16.45pm -20.30pm an attempt will be made to break the world record for the most amount of players in a Gaelic Football match in conjunction with the ABC's . Upon arrival players will sign their name beside a number, and collect a ticket with that number on it. They will then filter onto the pitch for a ten minute participation, before being substituted, registering their time in and out.

We would request all of our club members and friends to make an effort and come along to TCG Club in Greenford UB6 0NZ on Friday evening and be part of a unique opportunity at The Guinness World Record attempt. Breaking this record would be a huge statement for the Irish community in Britain and abroad so please come along support it and and be a part of it. Thanks a million for your continued support.

Good luck to all the St Clarets players taking part and we hope the club can enjoy as much success on the field as it did last year.

July 29th 2013

Club notes

At the end of an incredibly busy weekend for the club, once again our youth team players stole the headlines. Congratulations to our Under-16s for winning the All Britain Competition at Greenford on Sunday. Two hard-fought days of football, which saw the side remain unbeaten throughout, culminated in a one-point win over Naomh Padraig of Leicester in the final. This success adds to the London title that this very talented team won the previous weekend. The players involved were Dillon Buckley, Conor Bradshaw, Andrew Furlong, Shane O'Hare, Marc Kilbane, Joe O'Sullivan, Dylan Kearney, Stephen Braybrook, Jordan McGirr, Conor Devereux, Sean Rushe and Colm Lynott.

There will be no Under 16 training over the summer holidays but the season will resume in September.

Our Under 10s played a total of six matches on Friday, winning three and losing three as the exhaustion began to take its toll as the day progressed. The three victories were as a result of the great effort these children have put in all season at training, where they have come on leaps and bounds, we are very proud of them. The players representing the club at the weekend were: Aaron Myers, Tommy Naughton, Nathan Kiernan, Thomas Do Rosario, Liam Hession, Sabina Reddin, Chloe Enright, Lily McNulty (plus of course, Mila our mascot).

Meanwhile, the club's Under 12s qualified for the Shield Final of their competition before being beaten by St Dympna's of Luton. The final and semi-final were played in severe weather conditions, but the lads battled on in the thunder, lightening and heavy rain to do St Clarets proud in an experience I'm sure they will never forget, and one that will stand us in good stead for the years ahead. Both the parents and players deserve great credit for sticking it out to the end, thank you to them all. A special mention to Oisin Murphy who celebrated his 11th birthday on Saturday and sacrificed his birthday celebration to take part with the team. The under-12 players at the weekend were: Aaron Myers, Kyle King, Jack Kiernan, Jack Do Rosario, Callum Monaghan, Michael Myers, Milo McNulty, Niall Bradshaw, Oisin Murphy, Liam Hession, Charlie Nicholson, Thomas Do Rosario, Szymon Reddin.

The club would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents and mentors for devoting their entire weekend to enabling their kids to play in this brilliant event. Many thanks too to the organisers.

Well done to all the St Clarets members and players who participated in the World Record breaking attempt of the most people participating in one Gaelic football match. It was a great bit of fun enjoyed by all. The parents that took part were: Martin Hession, Marie Hession, Theresa Kiernan, Deidre Do Rosario, Mandy Naughton, Antionette McNulty, Lisa Enright and Danusia Reddin. The brothers and sisters were: Ciara Hession, Milo McNulty, Leona Enright, Szymon Reddin. We've been informed that if no-one breaks the record between now and Christmas that it will appear in the annual version of the Guinness Book of Records for 2013. A great day was had by all and we all came away as World Record Breakers (454 people took part, breaking the previous record of 399).

Well done to senior player Paddy Donaghy who completed a 100-mile charity cycle through Galway and Mayo in aid of the Josie Reddington Foundation on Saturday. Important information regarding mouthguards in the GAA

Information for Clubs, Players and Parents BACKGROUND Following the GAA’s Annual Congress in April 2012 a new rule was enacted that made it mandatory to use a mouthguard in all Gaelic football matches and training sessions from January 1st 2013 (for all age grades up to and including minor) and at U21 and Adult level from January 1st 2014.

Research figures indicate that Ireland has one of the highest rates of sport-related oral injuries in the EU, with one third of all adult dental injuries being sports-related. In many sports such as rugby and hockey the wearing of gumshields is the norm with nearly all clubs adhering strictly to a 'no gumshield - no game' rule. A recent survey of Irish parents found the average cost of dental treatment for sport related dental injuries in children to be €213.14. Studies have also shown that the overall injury risk is close to twice as high when a mouthguard is not worn, relative to when mouthguards were used during athletic activity.

The GAA’s Medical, Scientific & Welfare Committee acknowledge that the use of a properly fitted mouthguard is the best available protective device for reducing the incidence and severity of sports-related dental injuries and was centrally involved in ensuring the introduction of compulsory mouthguards in Gaelic Football.

This information sheet has been compiled to assist GAA Clubs and individual players in complying with the provisions of the new rule passed at Congress 2012.

ABOUT MOUTHGUARDS
There are three types of mouth guards:

Stock mouthguards are preformed and come ready to wear. They are inexpensive and can generally be purchased in sports shops for in or around €5 each. However, little can be done to adjust their fit, they are bulky, can make breathing and talking difficult, and they provide limited protection. Dentists do not recommend their use, nonetheless, once they carry the CE (European Conformity) mark they are acceptable in terms of complying with the new GAA Rules. 2

Official Opro GAA/GPA stock mouthguards will be available for purchasing through your local retailers: Supervalu, Centra, Lifestyle and Elverys.

Boil and bite mouthguards can also be bought over the counter at most Sports Shops and generally offer a better fit than stock mouth protectors. The "boil and bite" mouthguard is made from thermoplastic material. It is placed in hot water to soften, then placed in the mouth and shaped around the teeth using finger and tongue pressure. Dentists do not recommend their use in general. Typically these type of mouthguards will cost in the region of €15 to €20 and again any mouthguard with the CE mark on it in this category is sufficient to ensure compliance with the new rule.

Official Opro GAA/GPA boil & bite mouthguards will be available for purchasing through your local retailers: Supervalu, Centra, Lifestyle and Elverys.

Custom-fitted mouthguards are individually designed and made in a dental office or a professional laboratory based on your dentist's instructions. These will not just offer the best protection against dental and oral injury but they should not affect performance i.e. breathing and speech should be relatively unaffected particularly if these have been worn regularly.

First, your dentist will make an impression of your teeth and a mouth guard is then molded over the model using a special material. Due to the use of the special material and because of the extra time and work involved, this custom-made mouth guard is more expensive than the other types, but it provides the most comfort and protection.

Prices can vary significantly and it is worth seeking and comparing prices from a number of practitioners before deciding to purchase. Typically a custom fitted mouth-guard should cost between €60 and €120. However, many dental practices offer significant reductions to GAA Clubs who are ordering in bulk. GAA clubs can generally liaise with dental centres and clinics to arrange for someone to visit the club on a given day to take dental impressions from a number of players. Custom fitted mouthguards purchased in bulk in this manner should cost around €30 to €50 each.

To find a list of dentists and dental centres in your area, you can use the Find a Dentist function on the Irish Dental Associations Website - http://www.dentist.ie/find-a-dentist.10.html

WHICH TYPE OF MOUTHGUARD SHOULD I PURCHASE? The decision on which type of mouthguard a player should obtain is a matter of personal preference. There is no doubt that custom fitted mouthguards offer the best fit and protection but they are the most expensive option also. The Stock and Boil & Bite options will suffice for compliance with the new rules, but only if the product carries the CE mark.

In terms of underage players, it should be borne in mind that teeth and mouths are still developing up until about 12 years of age and young players may grow out of custom fitted mouthguards over a period time. However, your dental practitioner is ultimately in the best position to advise in this context.

COMPLYING WITH THE NEW RULE The GAA recognise that Clubs may be worried about compliance with the new rules and specifically what will happen if a player forgets or does not have a mouthguard on the day of a game. The suggestion in this context is that each Club should purchase a supply of the Stock or Boil and Bite mouthguards for use in such situations.

If a player refuses to comply with a Referee’s instruction to wear a mouthguard, he will incur the penalty as outlined in (Rule 6.2, Rules of Foul Play, The Playing Rules of Football, Official Guide, Part II, 2012) ‘Caution the offender; order off if he persists’.

SOME QUESTIONS

1. When does the new rule come into effect?
A. From January 1st 2013, all players playing in grades up to and including Minor will be required to wear a mouthguard in all football games and at practice sessions.

2. When does the ruling come into effect for adult players?
A. From January 1st, 2014 all players at all grades will be required to wear a mouthguard in all football games and practice sessions.

3. What will happen if I am not wearing a mouthguard in a game?
A. If a player refuses to comply with a Referee’s instruction to wear a mouthguard, he will initially be cautioned by the Referee and if the player continues to refuse, the Referee can send him off.

4. Who is responsible for ensuring mouthguards are worn at training or practice sessions?
A. It is a matter for each Club to ensure the rule is adhered to at training or practice sessions. Clubs and players should note that Players will not be covered under the player injury scheme if they are not wearing a mouthguard.

5. Do players have to wear a mouthguard in hurling games?
A. No. The new rule only applies to football; however, wearing a mouthguard when playing hurling does reduce the risk of dental injury.

6. I am a Minor playing on an adult team in 2013. Do I have to wear a mouthguard?
A. Not in 2013. The wearing of mouthguards in 2013 is compulsory at all age grades up to minor. However, a player playing at U-21 or adult level in 2013 is not required to wear a mouthguard under rule. From January 1st 2014 all players at all grades must wear a mouthguard.

7. Our Club has a nursery, are children in these juvenile age groups exempt from wearing a mouthguard?
A. No. The Medical, Scientific & Welfare Committee advise that children should begin wearing a mouthguard at whatever age they start playing. Young mouths need protecting too and if players start wearing mouthguards at a young age this will add greatly to the development of a culture of wearing mouthguards in Gaelic Football.

8. Does the new rule regarding the wearing of Gum Shields apply to Cumann na mBunscol games?
A. Yes.

9. If so, who is responsible for ensuring that they should be worn?
A. In general it is a matter for each Club to ensure this; however, in this case it is a matter for each School to ensure the rule is adhered to at training or practice sessions. To avoid a scenario whereby children may forget their mouthguard, the GAA recommends that Schools purchase a reserve of stock mouthguards.

10. Do I have to wear a mouthguard whilst playing Second Level games?
A. Yes. From January 1st 2013, all Second Level players will be required to wear a mouthguard in all football games and at practice sessions.

11. Do I have to wear a mouthguard whilst playing Third Level games?
A. Not in 2013. From January 1st 2014 all players at all grades must wear a mouthguard.

12. Does this apply to overseas players?
A. Yes.

13. I’m a referee – do I have to check all players mouths before a game to ensure compliance?
A. Referee’s will not be expected to individually check players before a game; however, if a Referee notices that a player is not wearing a mouthguard, he should caution the player and if the player still refuses to wear one, he should be sent off.

14. A supplier of custom fitted mouthguards has contacted my club and offered to measure players for custom fitted guards, what does the GAA advise?
A. It is a matter for each individual club to decide whether they want to engage with industry suppliers in this context or not. The GAA nationally has no preferred suppliers in this area.

15. Which type of mouthguard should I purchase?

16. I currently wear orthodontic braces, what are my options?
A. It has been noted that children wearing orthodontic braces and wishing to play Gaelic football will be particularly concerned about the rule change; however, the GAA recommends that these players seek advice from a range of dental practitioners on the most appropriate solution for them.

17. Is there an official GAA/GPA mouthguard?
A. Official Opro GAA/GPA stock and boil & bite mouthguards will be available for purchasing through your local retailers: Supervalu, Centra, Lifestyle and Elverys.

Club notes

The committee and members of St Clarets GFC would like to pass on their deepest sympathies to the family of Kevin Twomey, who passed away this week after a period of illness. Kevin's son Jack is an integral part of the club’s U16 team, while Kevin was a staunch supporter of St Clarets since Jack joined as an U10 player in 2007. He also proudly saw Jack represent London at Feile na nOg in Derry as a 13-year old and again the following year in his home county of Cork. Kevin was a popular and very supportive member of our club and will be fondly remembered by all our players and parents. The club would like to offer their sincere condolences to the Twomey family. May he rest in peace.

With the year drawing to a close, the committee would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard in the name of St Clarets throughout 2012. The year has once again been a resounding success for the youth section of the club and our thanks go to the coaches and parents who have helped to make that so. We’ve also witnessed shoots of improvement at senior level and hopefully that will continue into 2013. For those travelling over the Christmas period, we hope you all have safe journeys and we look forward to seeing everyone back early next year.
